In a collaborative effort the Fiat 124 Spider and Mazda MX-5 Miata share much of the suspension, steering and chassis features. These two cars are nearly identical in size and both are made to be great two-seater roadsters that you would want to drive on every road. While the Miata has always been about fun on the road and certainly never boasted great power we have enjoyed it in every form over its history which makes the idea of an Italian car with similar features one that is exceptionally attractive to us and makes us want to pay attention.
Although there are vast similarities between the two cars there are some differences you should be aware of. Most importantly the power. The Fiat 124 Spider will offer you 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque from a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine . This is a sizable jump from the Miata and with the price of the 124 showing up at $25,990, which is close to the same price as the Miata you can be certain you will have car that is fun to drive and gives you the added boost you’ve been looking for.
Not only do you get to drive a more powerful car for essentially the same price but you have an Italian-styled car that looks amazing and is not the Miata. For this base price you get to drive the Classica model which is equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, black cloth seats, halogen headlights, LED taillights, and a six-speed manual transmission. You can add the automatic to the mix but this will increase the price by $1,300 but if you plan to have the 124 Spider as your daily driver this might be a much better option for you so that you don’t have to worry about the gears in heavy traffic.
There are more trim levels to be enjoyed on this car to give you lots of choices and have the sports car you want to enjoy. The Lusso model adds 17-inch alloy wheels, silver painted A-pillar headers, a dual tip chrome exhaust, heated leather seats and a leather wrapped gauge cluster. These upgrades will move the price to $28,480.
The Abarth name has become a familiar one when it comes to Fiat and the 124 Spider Abarth will cost you around $29,190. For this price you will have an engine that is tuned up to 165 horsepower along with a Bilstein sport suspension, a mechanical limited slip differential, a front strut tower bar, a sport tuned exhaust, a sport mode selector, 17-inch aluminum wheels, Gun Metal exterior features, a hand-painted hood stripe, Brembo brakes and Recaro racing seats. This price and performance model does come with the manual transmission to give you the driving you want to enjoy.
There is even a special edition of this car, which will sit higher than the Abarth model. The 124 Spider Primia Edizione Lusso model will only be 124 units in total and will cost you $35,995. This low volume car will feature commemorative badging, an exclusive blue paint and brown leather seats. There is a matching bag, journal and poster that will be included with this car so you can enjoy your 124 Spider everywhere you go.
