It's sad that so many items today can't be recycled or, if they can, it's not easy to recycle them (like televisions or computer monitors). I try to make my items last as long as possible so I won't need to purchase them often.

47% of the UK's annual carbon emissions are the result of heating our homes, so microgeneration in the form of solar panels to heat your hot water or photovoltaics to provide electricity is a solid sustainable option to consider. For information on how solar hot water systems work, you could look at SolarUK's website: http://www.solaruk.com/.

The 3 R's make sense maybe the 4th would be Restraint? Don't buy the things you don't need. Speaking of Restraint, the wedding people have to stop spamming your comments, Comment luv is generous enough...comments like theirs is what makes people kill CL and make their blogs nofollow

I agree that being frugal is critically important when it comes to cutting back on costs, but we often don't see the hidden benefit of the eco-savings and carbon footprint reduction we contribute to in so doing.

I'm always interested in finding new ways of saving and being more frugal and intelligent regarding domestic budgeting issues. There's always someone somewhere that has a different angle of trick that's worth learning, and that;s why posts such as this are a great way of sharing.

One of my favorites is to buy in bulkd wherever you can and to stick with generic brands and also avoid fancy packaging that just adds to product costs and increased pollution.

Term green is overused today. This is more marketing term than ecological. For example, soft drink producer is advertising the news that they are thinking ecological, since they use lighter PET bottles. They reduced bottle weight 5% on average. At same time they increase sales volume by 8-10% annually. So, does tha bring less or more plastic into environment?

Well written and timely. Those 3 R's you remember from school are re-emerging in grade schools again and people are taking being green as much more seriously because it makes economic sense. You're additional resources were also helpful.
