Indianapolis is a great place to live. It is home to one of the largest sporting events in the world and many other attractions and events throughout the year. Looking for family-friendly fun? Need budget-friendly activities? You can find it all in Indy. Take a look at some of the things to do.
Ride the Cultural Trail
Did you know that Indianapolis has a Cultural Trail? It’s an eight-mile paved trail that takes you around the city and past some of the most famous Indy attractions. So, grab your bike, rent a bike, or get set for a walk and head out to see the sites. The trail connects Lugar Plaza, the Downtown Canal Walk, and Georgia Street. You can start your ride at any of these locations or park at White River State Park on West Washington St. There is a visitor center here with restrooms and trail information.
Visit the Indianapolis Zoo
Are you ready to make some new furry friends? Head to the Indianapolis Zoo to see the over 3,800 animals that live there. There are over 64 acres of exhibits with almost any type of animal you can think of. Find out about the zoo’s conservation efforts and see the endangered animals. If you like the idea of seeing rare animals, check out the White Rhinos, the Guinea baboons, and the Amur tigers.
Explore the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum
Whether you are a race fan or not, you can’t stay in Indianapolis without going to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. We all know that the speedway is the home of racing in Indianapolis, and the museum sits right in the middle of the track. What better way to experience racing than from where all the action takes place? There are two floors of exhibits with historic race cars, engines, lots of memorabilia, and items that date back to the late 1800s.
If you’re a race fan, you have to see this museum. One of the permanent displays is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.
Get Your Own Wheels on at Fun Factory
Get that old-school roller skating experience at Fun Factory. Spend an evening at the rink with friends or bring the kids to one of the themed nights. Each day brings a new experience with special deals on Tuesdays, all-you-can-eat pizza on Wednesdays, and Family Fun Night on Fridays. While roller skating is a blast, Fun Factory has more than just skating. You can plan a group outing, birthday party, or even a rebate fundraiser.
Explore the Indianapolis Museum of Art
The Indianapolis Museum of Art is the perfect spot in Indianapolis for art lovers. It’s been showcasing exhibits since 1883 and is home to over 50,000 pieces of art. Spend an afternoon wandering through the exhibits on your own, or take a guided tour, but either way, you can get lost in the art. You’ll see everything from Egyptian mummies to an Asian art display and impressionist paintings.
Indianapolis has something for everyone. Whether you like to spend time outside, love exploring museums, or want to see firsthand all that the Speedway has to offer.
