Summer Fitness Fun: Best Outdoor Activities to Keep Active

Summer Fitness Fun Best Outdoor Activities to Keep Active

Summer is the perfect time to get active and enjoy fresh air during the warmer weather and longer days. Outdoor activities provide a ton of physical benefits, but it’s also great for an improved mental state. This is especially true if you live in a place where the winters are long. Let’s take a look at some ideas for staying active this summer.

Hiking or Nature Walks

Hiking can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. No matter where you live, there are likely lots of hiking opportunities nearby. It’s important to only take on hikes that match your level of fitness. There are plenty of sites that show the relative ease or difficulty of a particular hike. If hiking is too strenuous, you could also check out parks nearby and walk the trails. Just make sure to pack water and food and use sunscreen.

Water Sports

Summer is usually the perfect time to get involved in various water sports like swimming, paddleboarding, boating, or kayaking. Not only do these activities provide a great workout, but they can help you cool down in hot weather as well. Some water sports like kayaking or jet skis require a vehicle that’s capable of transporting your equipment. Summer is also a good time to get down to your Nissan dealer and check out capable SUVs like the Nissan Rogue or the Nissan Pathfinder.

Biking

Biking is another way to hit the trails and enjoy some time outdoors. You have many options here, from exploring your own neighborhood to riding your bike to nearby trails or parks. Biking is a flexible activity, so you can ride solo or with a group, ride on the road, park trails, or in the mountains. Just like hiking, you can adjust it to your level of fitness and skill. It’s generally a low-impact exercise that provides a lot of cardio.

Gardening

Gardening is not only good exercise, but it’s productive and fulfilling. Creating and maintaining a garden involves exercises like digging, weeding, watering, and planting. To engage in gardening, you’ll probably find yourself walking, bending, and lifting. Your garden can be big or small, depending on where you live. The great thing about gardening is that it’s not just exercise, it’s a productive activity that will yield fresh vegetables and/or beautiful flowers.

Beachcombing

If you’re lucky enough to live within reasonable driving distance of a beach, beachcombing is a fun and energetic activity to do in the summer. When you’re by the ocean or the bay, the weather will likely be cooler so you can escape the heat. Walking in the sand provides great resistance and some beaches can be quite rugged so it’s almost like hiking. Depending on the beach and the water temperature, you might also be able to enjoy some swimming or snorkeling.

No matter what type of activity you decide to do this summer, it’s important to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and tune your exercise routine to your level of fitness.
